The Diamond Sutra
Buddhism
Scripture of a living faith: the library collects it and does not score it, and readers cannot rate it.
A short Mahayana sutra on the perfection of wisdom, framed as a dialogue between the Buddha and his disciple Subhuti about letting go of fixed ideas, even of the teaching itself. Kumarajiva's Chinese version is chanted in temples across East Asia and was central to Chan. A printed copy dated 868, found at Dunhuang, is the oldest dated printed book known.
