Scripture of a living faith: the library collects it and does not score it, and readers cannot rate it.

The oldest surviving Japanese book, compiled by O no Yasumaro in 712 from the recitations of Hieda no Are: the birth of the islands from Izanagi and Izanami, the sun goddess Amaterasu, and the descent of the imperial line. Shinto holds it among its sacred classics. Written in Chinese characters bent to Japanese, it also preserves the earliest Japanese songs.
