Liege & Lief

Made in 1969 after a road accident killed the band's drummer, this album turned Fairport toward traditional English ballads played with electric guitars and Dave Swarbrick's fiddle. Sandy Denny sings long story songs such as Matty Groves and Tam Lin. It is often credited with founding British folk rock, and its historical weight exceeds its consistency.
