A Byzantine princess writes the reign of her father, Alexios I, in fifteen books of learned, classicising Greek. She is openly partisan and sometimes vague on dates, but she knew the court from inside, and her account of the Normans and the armies of the First Crusade is a key view from the other side. It is also one of the earliest histories by a woman that survive.
