Painted by Wen Zhengming in the same year as his Living Aloft on this wall, on a fan meant to be carried and opened in the hand. Lake Tai, near his home city of Suzhou, was the great lake of the region and a favourite of its painters. The curved format bends the horizon, so the lake seems to open around you.
