Fjæstad was a Swedish painter so devoted to snow and frost that he became known as a master of hoarfrost, working with a circle of artists at Rackstad in Värmland. He painted frost not as a white blur but as a texture you can almost touch. The light is the brief, low sun of a northern winter day.
