Hammershøi lived at Strandgade 30 in Copenhagen for about ten years and painted its rooms many times, usually by day. Here the same window lets in moonlight instead, and the pattern on the floor is fainter and cooler. Nothing happens in the room, which is exactly what he wanted to paint.
