Krøyer was the best known of the Skagen painters, who gathered at the northern tip of Denmark where two seas meet. He loved the blue hour after sunset, when sea and sky turn the same colour. This small panel has almost nothing in it, a moon, a boat, a beach, and that is why it is so restful.
