Homer spent his later years at Prouts Neck on the coast of Maine and painted the Atlantic in every weather. The title names a lighthouse, but the painting gives almost everything to the moon on breaking water, laid down in thick, quick strokes. It is the loudest sea on this wall, and still a calm picture.
